2010 Corporate Highlights
- FSLH is awarded a $31.3 million grant from New York State (NYS) to improve long-term care services and develop community-based alternatives to traditional nursing home care for seniors living in Oneida County. The award is a direct result of a competitive grant opportunity offered by the NYS Department of Health (DOH) and the Dormitory Authority of New York State (DASNY) to fund projects that maintain access to appropriately sized nursing home facilities while developing less restrictive options that New York's seniors prefer. The funding is provided through Phase 20 of the Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law of New York State (HEAL NY) and the Federal-State Reform Partnership (F-SHRP).
- Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare’s Regional Cancer Center located at the Faxton Campus is awarded a three-year term of reaccreditation in cancer care as a result of a survey by the Commission on Cancer (COC).
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is rolled out hospital wide as a tool to provide improved patient care. EMR has been used at our primary care offices for several years and is now being implemented in various departments at the hospital campuses.
- FSLH receives accreditation as a requirement of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) through Det Norske Veritas Healthcare, Inc. (DNV). The company was established in 1864 and has operated in the U.S. since 1898. As an independent, self-supporting Third Party Evaluator, they operate in 100 countries with 15 offices in the U.S.
- FSLH begins offering elective coronary angioplasty for serious blockages of the coronary arteries at the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at the St. Luke’s Campus.
- The Keith A. Fenstemacher Center for Continuous Learning opens a simulation lab at the St. Luke’s Campus featuring five simulation robots that are designed to provide clinical experience for staff, allowing them to engage in critical thinking exercises and gain exposure to various situations through a controlled and computerized simulation process.
- FSLH is the first hospital in the area to install a next-generation scanner that helps doctors detect disease in its early stages and monitor the progress of patients’ treatment. The GE Discovery STE scanner combines two kinds of imaging to give doctors complete information about the patient’s condition in a single exam that decreases exam time by half. Previously, doctors had to put patients through two separate scans to get similar information.
- The James M. Rozanski Dental Residency Program celebrates its 30 year anniversary and The Regional Cancer Center celebrates 10 years.
- The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recognizes Adirondack Community Physicians Medical Offices for their Physician Practice Connections – Patient-Centered Medical Home (PPC-PCMH) program. The recognition notes their use of evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term provider/patient relationships.
- The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Utica and Oneida County is awarded a $100,000 grant by The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties to expand its Telehealth monitoring system to better serve chronically ill and non-English speaking patients that receive home care.
- John Weakley, a greeter at FSLH, is selected by the Center for Donation and Transplant in Albany to serve as a float rider in the 2011 Rose Parade. Weakley received a heart transplant in 1992 after suffering two heart attacks before the age of 55.
- Renovations of AC2 East/West and the 5th Floor located at the St. Luke’s Campus of FSLH are completed. The units feature an Adirondack theme with warm colors and a soothing environment supported by the latest technology. Each room contains built-in oxygen and suction, individual sinks, and flat screen televisions. A pneumatic tube system links the patient floor with FSLH’s lab for quicker test results.
- FSLH Bariatric Surgery Program has earned a renewal as a Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an independent, non-profit organization that advances the safety, efficacy and efficiency of bariatric and metabolic surgery.
